Geometric Documentation & Visual Inspection of the 10 longest Greek Railway Tunnels
Within the national project “Upgrading the Safety Infrastructure of the 10 Longest O.S.E. Railway Tunnels using Smart IoT Systems,” our team is delivering the geometric and photographic documentation of the aforementioned tunnels.
Using a 3D SLAM laser scanner , we perform continuous scanning of the full tunnel length, targeting point-cloud density up to 2 cm and relative accuracy ~10 cm. High-resolution panoramic imaging documents cracks and defects, while thermal imaging (synchronized with chainage) supports anomaly detection across the tunnel crown.
Key deliverables
- Georeferenced 3D point clouds of the tunnel shell
- Panoramic photos at 10 m intervals along the tunnel
- Thermal crown images correlated with tunnel chainage
- Plan view with alignment, rails, boundaries & portal construction details
- Longitudinal profile of the tunnel alignment
- Characteristic Cross-sections
This project is more than a technical achievement. It contributes directly to the modernization of the country’s railway infrastructure, enabling data-driven monitoring and safer, smarter tunnel management for years to come.
