In the context of works of the ARCHYTAS Act – “ARCHETYPO Intelligent System of Telemetric Control & Decision Making for the protection of monumental structures”, for the first cycle of the Action “Research – Create – Innovate” of the Operational programme “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation”, and in collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens and the Ancient Monuments Restoration Service, ARGO-E GROUP team completed with quality and consistency aerial and terrestrial photogrammetric works using UAVs.
3D mapping target included the wider area of the archaeological site (~ 10 acres), for extracting terrain topography, as well as the detailed mapping of the structural elements of the Temple, for the 3D reconstruction of the Temple.
The field team, consisting of two Surveying Engineers and a Civil Engineer, carried out aerial and ground photogrammetric mapping on December 18, 2020, which included on-site identification of the study area, marking and surveying of Ground Control Points and execution of UAV flights for the photographic and geometric documentation of the wider area and the structural elements of the Temple, by capturing ~2500 aerial and terrestrial photographs.
Processing of imagery and surveying data followed, for generating true orthophotos, 3D models and planar views/sections of the monument.
