Security has always been one of Argo-E’s core principles. We constantly work to build more secure applications both for our own and our clients infrastructure.
Data sent using HTTPS is secured via Transport Layer Security protocol (TLS) and protects the integrity and confidentiality of data between the user’s computer and a website. This involves three layers of protection: encryption, data integrity and authentication.
Encryption. Encrypting the exchanged data to keep it secure from eavesdroppers. That means that while the user is browsing a website, nobody can “listen” to their conversations, track their activities across multiple pages or steal their information.
Data integrity. Data cannot be modified or corrupted during transfer, intentionally or otherwise, without being detected.
Authentication. Proves that your users communicate with the intended website. It protects against man-in-the-middle attacks and builds user trust, which translates into other business benefits.
Additional Benefits of HTTPS
Besides increasing overall security between communications, HTTPS is becoming a necessity for all websites. Effective July 2018, Google’s Chrome browser will mark all non-HTTPS websites as ‘not secured’. An example of how the Chrome browser address bar will look like, while navigating to a non-HTTPS website, is given below.
Google has been recommending the usage of HTTPS for years now, by confirming that it is an SEO ranking factor in 2014, while at the same time all HTTPS to HTTTP referral data are being blocked in Google Analytics. That means, that if your site is still on HTTP, every link back to your site from a popular HTTPS website will appear as “direct traffic” on your Google Analytics results (i.e., you cannot tell what the source website is). Not being able to track down popular referrals to your website can be a real headache for a digital marketing expert.
As a result, HTTPS usage has increased significantly over the past years.
Internet users have familiarized themselves with the use of HTTPS websites. According to a European web security survey, 9 out of 10 Internet users are more likely to trust an HTTPS website, since it provides a sense of security and reassurance that their personal information is safe on the Internet.
As part of our updated security policy and our continuous efforts to provide top-notch end products to our clients, that will increase credibility and SEO performance, Argo-E has transferred all client websites to HTTPS at no cost to the client!
